Ms.Dessia Braitwaithe
Coming from South
Ruimveldt Park is Ms. Dessia
Braithwaithe she describes herself
as a young hip twenty four year old woman who is responsible,
strong, educated, talented, beautiful and fun to be with.
The eldest of three (3) siblings and since her mom passed
away a few years ago, has been given the opportunity to
experience the role of a mother in the life of my two
sisters, however, Dessia’s dad who is the love of her life has always been there
to love, care and support her in every way and that in
itself has kept her strong.
At five feet, seven
inches tall brown skinned in complexion Ms. Braithwaithe
interests include singing, reading, modeling and most
of all dancing. At the age of fourteen she began dancing
and kept up this hobby of hers professionally but say
at some part of her life, she also did a bit of acting.
My first experience was two years ago to be the lead actress
in Guyana’s first musical play at the National Cultural Center
and was directed by Derick Moore.
Since then she became quite bold and versed in acting
and soon meet with several advertising agencies to fight
against HIV in the form of advertisement. “The reason
for such a choice is really because I love to help people
and also I wanted to save more lives and it meant doing
an advertisement would save an individual I would be happy
to do so. But I still felt like I was missing something.
There was this part of me that wanted to be a model and
not just a model but the best I can be. As a child, I
would always look at the models on television and in the
magazines wishing that someday I would have the opportunity
to walk down the runway looking all dressed up and feeling
sexy and believe me when the opportunity came I was ready to grab
it with everything in me.”
Soon
Dessia began modeling for designers such as Derick Moore, Micheal Cole, and
Roger Garyand the list goes
on. As a result of modeling for such designers she was
featured on the television, in the newspapers, in the
GEM magazine, extra news papers and even in the ‘Shabu’ Caribbean magazine
but said she wants more and that is why she has decided
to be a part of the Ms. Guyana World pageant. Obtaining
her secondary education at Christ church Secondary after
which she worked for four years, then decided that she
wanted to make a contribution to my country and that is
how she began studying social work.
