Melesa Archer

I am twenty years old and I reside in Georgetown.  At present I am a third year International Relations Student at the University of Guyana.

As a child sometimes in my quiet moments, I imagined what it would feel like to be sort of a beauty contestant.  I have always admired the dedication that models possess.  Being a part of this pageant, would be an everlasting experience and the inner peace gained would make me stronger and more self-confident.

My childhood days were very playful.  I enjoyed changing into different clothes and shoes.  This made me feel proud.  Also it was difficult to resist taking baths in the rain.  My mother would try to caution me by insisting that I could contract a cold and possibly fever – which might have been contagious to the rest of the family.  But, always trying to be right and sometimes stubborn I would still continue running about in the rain.

Daily after school, I would climb  a very large downs tree that was in my backyard.  Climbing up the tree and eating downs became one of  my hobbies.  At one time I ate too much and my stomach soon rejected all that was consumed.  I think that was one lesson that I learnt well and as a result I now rarely eat downs in such large quantities.

Dancing was another hobby. I attended dance school and did well but due to concentrating on my studies, my mother terminated my dancing contract. I was always taught by my parents to be focused and honest.  My father motivated me to read school books and fairy tale stories.

Being sensitive and loving to people is something that makes me feel good.  I am a very religious person; therefore I always put my trust in God, and it also seems easy to be forgiving at all times.

During my early teenage years, “success was my story”. For instance at exams I always aimed to be the best.  However sometimes I would disappoint myself.  Further I was always determined to defeat difficulties and I would try again so at the end I was successful.

Later on, my intention is to study law and I have made this a priority and will achieve my goals and all the great rewards that come with that.

As a young woman I feel proud to have achieved the academic qualifications I have thus far. I will continue to pursue my education with the same perseverance I have in the past.

My friends have admired my ability to adjust to persons and their needs.  Sometimes it is easy to relax and converse with friends and I feel confident in giving advice and also practicing what I preach.

I always try to be a good role model for my friends and especially for my younger sister.  Life can be great even though filled with ups and downs but one has to be self-confident and live life to the fullest.

My motto “Make Success Your Story”
