Danielle McIntyre

I am a proud Lindener and the eldest of four children, however the only child of Carol A. McIntyre and Terrence P. Beckles.

I was born on August 29th 1980 and I am fondly referred to as Tiana by my adoring relatives and friends.  I am 5’8” and I am of African, Indian, Amerindian and Portugese descent.

I was named after the author, Danielle Steele, whose books my mother loved to read.  My mother being the fourth of twelve children, I grew up with many cousins.  According to my mother, I was a pleasant child while growing up, who loved to climb trees, dress up and pretend to be a teacher.

I began my academic life at the Oronoque Drive Nursery School.  Following the completion of two years at this level, upon graduation I moved on to the Regma Primary School.  After six rewarding years of primary schooling it was time for me to sit the Secondary School Entrance Examination (SSEE).

During the run up to these critical exams I remembered being warned by my mother of the need to study hard in order to record a high enough mark to gain entry in to one of the schools she knew I had the ability to go to.  The warning was at most times followed by the threat of being sent to the handicapped school if I failed.  Fortunately, as fate would have it, I acquired enough marks to gain entry into the Christianburg Wismar Secondary School, ranked second for  schools in Linden at that time.

A “challenge” aptly sums up my years in High School.  This was particularly so in relation to the increased workload of having to prepare for 15 subjects as opposed to the four core ones focused on in the primary level. The adjustment was hard.

During this period, I also had the good fortune to participate in a number of cultural and sporting activities which complimented my academic progress.  After completion of my secondary level,  I made efforts to continue my studies.  I enrolled at the Linden Computer College where I studied Information Technology and I also took CXC English and Math. It was also during this time that I taught on a part-time basis, summer courses at the Linden Computer College to primary level students.  After three years of study I  gained employment with the Stabroek News.

Due to my interest and love of computer technology field, I pursued a course in PC repairs at the I.T. Centre in Georgetown.  Satisfied with a Grade A in the course I went on to study Networking at the same facility.

When not at work I spend most of the time engaging in one of my favourite activities – exploring the features or programs on the computer.  Apart from this, I enjoy writing stories and poems, meeting people and spending time with my many infant cousins and of course catching up on nap time.  I love my rest.

I intend to commence studies at the University of Guyana next year.  My career goal is to become an A+ PC Technician or a Web Page designer.
