Maliza Walton

I am twenty years old and born on November 20th, 1981 and extremely vivacious.  I am the 5th of 6 children and I enjoy relaxing and trying new things.  I have an extremely adventurous spirit and have been known on occasion to be outrageous.

I got my Swahili name from my parents who lived in sub Saharan Africa and in English it means Finished – Thank You – Maliza (Finished) Asante (Thank You) as I was supposed to be the last child for my parents but ……..

I attended the Leeds Nursery and for about two years the primary school.  I am extremely proud of my Berbician heritage which has enabled me to learn to climb trees, catch fish or “feel” as the Berbicians would put it.  I have had my share of skinned knees, sandfly bites, dog chases and cow milking.  It is extremely possible that it was since then that I had cultivated a suspicious dislike for all things bovine with the healthy exception of the meat.

Linden was the next stop for the Walton family and I graduated from the Watooka Day School on my way to President’s College. I am of the firm belief that there is more to Linden than the dust and depressed people and given the chance Lindeners can show this.  My years at the School of Excellence ie. President’s College, has moulded me into the well-rounded person I am today. I believe in myself and I don’t look for compliments from others.

After attaining 7 subjects at the CXC (5 ones and 2 twos)I went on to take Law History and English at the A’Level and passed all three.  I then entered the University of Guyana in 2001 and I am pursuing a degree in Communication Studies. I expect to graduate in 2004.  I worked at the Guyana Broadcasting Corporation for 18 months before joining the Prime News team this year.  As a broadcaster at the GBC I hosted the popular morning show Quiz Catch. At Prime news I function as a camera person, reporter and anchor of the nightly newscast.

My favourite quotes are “To Thine Own Self Be True  and “ Do Unto Others Before They Do Unto You”.
