Contestants of the Miss Guyana World
beauty pageant were today afforded the opportunity share interact
with President Bharrat Jagdeo, during a courtesy call paid
on him at State House.
The eight contestants will be vying
for the coveted crown on Saturday at the Le Meridien Pegasus.
The beauties discussed ambitions and
future aspirations with the Head-of-State who offered encouragement
and motivation.
This year’s contingent includes
winner of this year’s Mother and Daughter Pageant, Yolanda
Armstrong.
President Jagdeo noted that he may
not be afforded the opportunity to attend Saturday night’s
event in light of a very rigid schedule of Cabinet Outreaches
currently being conducted.
This has also prevented him from attending
the CARICOM Heads of Government Conference earlier this week.
The President who is an avid supporter
of culture, youth and sport has been giving sustained assistance
to youths in many endeavours.
This includes the President’s
Youth Choice Initiative (PYCI) and the President’s Youth
Award.
He has also committed more than $20M
to the development of local football over the last year, in
addition to sponsoring the President’s Cup Football
tournament
