World Pageant

Christa Simmons, 23, after being
selected as Guyana's representative to the Miss World
2008 pageant, is set to wing out on November 13 for one
month of competition for the coveted Miss World Crown.
Yesterday she received a return
ticket to London compliments of Caribbean Airlines. The
lady, who is promising Guyana that she will do her best
to sell her country, said " I'm focused on selling Guyana,
but if I place in the top 20, let alone the top five,
or better still win the crown, that will be fantastic."
The ticket was handed over to the local beauty by Carlton
Defour, General Manager of Caribbean Airlines. She was
official ly awarded the title at a function at the Zoom
Inn International Hotel in August by her predecessor,
Candacy Charles.
Christa was selected by the Miss
Guyana World committee from a list of prospective candidates.
The international pageant was originally billed for the
Ukraine, but had to be postponed. The decision to select
a local beauty ambassador to the pageant was taken several
weeks ago after it was realized that time did not permit
the holding of a pageant to formally select a delegate
to represent Guyana at the pageant in its 58th year.
This beauty holds a degree in
the Social Sciences from the University of Guyana, and
is the second local beauty to have been selected to contest
the interna tional pageant. The first was Suzette Shim.
She says that she will be contesting
in four of the fast track events at the international
pageant. " For my talent I'll be singing; I'll be in the
sporting segment; and then I'll do the Miss Model of the
World; I will also be hotly contesting the beauty pageant
with a purpose charity event," she told this publication.
" I'm not pursuing the crown,
I'm planning to do my best and after that I'm eyeing a
shot at the Miss Universe crown," Simmons said.
