Sassy,
sexy........

THE
countdown to July 8 has begun that's the date for the
2006 Ms. Guyana World Competition and pageant fans
are in for a treat!
Eight
sassy, sexy young ladies will be vying for the crown, which
has been held by the elegant Jasmine Herzog for the last year.
At
the Regency Hotel in Georgetown on Saturday night, the media,
sponsors and other invited guests were given a chance to see
the charming delegates for the first time, at the official
launching of the competition.
Decked
in black mini-skirts [and tops, fashionable ones], the delegates
graced the stage and became the centre of attraction -- instantly.
And
they handled it well, given that they were able to traverse
the tiled floor with their high heels, despite cameras flashing
and people staring at their bodies.
In
addition to being quite attractive, they were not shy, and
most rather eloquently related to the media their reasons
for being in the competition.
The
launching of the competition coincided with the sashing of
the girls.
**
Delegate number one is 24-year old Ms. Salod Marketing Agency
Dessia Braithwaite
** Number two is Ms. Japarts Kristia Ramlagan, 19
** Number three [the other 24-year-old in the pageant] is
Ms. Katsun Enterprise - Zerena Mohamed
** Number four is Ms. Fix It Hardware - Ellen Ann Bellamy,
19
** Number five is Ms. Lifetime Reality - Mercedes Todd, 21
** Number six, Ms. Shades and Shapes Cooperated, Teneshia
Harding 19
** Number seven, Ms. Giftland Office Max, Yulanda Armstrong,
19
** Number eight is Ms. Tony Sports Wear - Kean Andrews, the
youngest in the pageant [18] who towers over the other girls.
In
terms of experience, Public Relations Officer Ali Williams told
the Guyana Chronicle that all the girls are newcomers to pageantry,
but some are not new to being before the camera, since Dessia,
Teneshia and Kristia have modelled in the past.
This
might not be a big advantage since all the contestants were
rather confident.
Two
are at the University of Guyana, while others are doing some
other tertiary level schooling and contemplating or looking
seriously to enhance their career.
Along
with that some of the girls are also into sports. Kean, in
fact, was a dominant basketball player for the Pepsi Sonics
female team; she also tried her hands at rugby.
Kristia
plays hockey for the Old Fort female team while Teneshia has
started playing volleyball and is doing taekwondo.
At
the other end of the spectrum Mercedes likes to cook and read
romance novels; Yulanda is into law; Ellen 'knows' [not think]
that she is a great motivator and is on a quest to become
a diplomat; Dessia loves modelling, while Zerena, with a busy
schedule as a nurse, can rock a pool table!
The
race is so close, especially at this point, that the current
Ms. Guyana World thinks that personality will dictate a winner.
'All
the girls are stunning' said Jasmine, 'all totally smart and
the one thing that would separate the princesses from the
queen will be personality. When you go out on the big stage
it is all about personality.''
Williams
pointed out that although the race is for the number one spot,
the top five girls will be given a chance to represent Guyana
at an international pageant.
The
Queen will travel to the Ms. World Pageant in Poland later
in the year, while the four next best finishers will have
until the next Ms. Guyana World competition to attend a pageant
to be selected.
