“She
is a sparkling diamond… You really can’t help not noticing her.”
Designer Derek Moore has found a gem of a person in Miss Guyana World
2003 Alexis Glasgow, and plans to make her shine when he presents
his ‘D’ Adlai Collection’ at Cara Inn this evening.
Patrons
to the show will get a glimpse of the wardrobe Moore is preparing
for Alexis’ sojourn to the Chinese resort island of Sanya for the
2003 Miss World pageant.
He
hinted for example, that her evening gown would carry a Chinese
effect at the neck and the material would flow. He did not let on
about the colour, but can we suggest white, bearing in mind how
stunning she looked at the official evening gown competition at
Le Meridien Pegasus a week before she was crowned.
As
is required, Alexis’ gown design has already been submitted to the
Miss World organisation.
Moore
said his ‘D’Adlai Collection’ will feature some 80 pieces and the
best ones for the night will be packed in Alexis’ suitcase, when
she leaves this week for London.
He
calls his outfits, most of which are wraps, “sexy and tasteful”,
and full of “colour”.
And
to be included in today’s show will be a pregnant line, plus a line
for full size women.
Moore
has not put on a show in five years, and his only explanation for
choosing to do one now is “a mood swing”.

“I
just feel its right. Since I’m preparing for my annual show in London
(December 13) and I’m outfitting Alexis at this time, it is a perfect
opportunity for people to see what our queen will look like”, he said.
“Alexis
has this bright smile, she really lights up a room and I’m going
to work with outfits that make her glitter,” he said.
“Importantly,
however, Alexis will be noticed for the person she is and that’s
someone who is sweet and outgoing. I guarantee you everyone at Miss
World will know Miss Guyana because you simply can’t help not noticing
her,” Moore said.
“No
matter who it is, I know she will hug and kiss and smile at everyone,
because that is the person she is,” he added.
Alexis
will leave this week for London and will take part in a number of
functions there.
She
is also scheduled to visit New York for shopping and a meeting with
the Guyanese community there.
She
has to be in China one month before the Miss World pageant, which
is billed for December 6, 2003.
The
event will be broadcast live from a multi-purpose venue to be named
the Miss World Stadium. The venue has been designed to resemble
the crown of Miss World, when illuminated at night.
