PRESS RELEASE

The Miss Guyana World organisation is pleased to inform the public that the 2004 Miss World Pageant will be held for the second consecutive year in China. The Pageant which is usually held in December has now been brought forward to October of this year.  As a result, the staging of our local pageant has been affected.  In the past our local Pageant was held in the month of September, allowing the organisation adequate time to fully prepare our representative.  As a result of the change, the Miss Guyana World Organisation has decided that it will not be hosting a pageant this year, but rather the Committee will conduct a thorough screening process to select a representative to compete for the Miss World title. Our decision is also prompted by the large number of pageants in Guyana and decreasing support from business entities.

We wish to empathise with local businesses and with our significantly reduced budget, hope we can continue to receive their support to prepare our delegate.  Our costs will be limited to wardrobe, make-up/beauty treatment, travel, gym and training for the Queen and for the hosting of two events.

Persons who are interested in being selected as the country’s representative and who meet the requirements (see below) should uplift and fill out an application form from the Miss Guyana 20 Bel-Air-Gardens, Georgetown, Guyana ,Tel: No: 22 61808 or Cell:614 2073.

Persons wishing to be considered for screening must meet the following requirements:

  • Between ages of 17-25
  • Never married
  • Never given birth to a child
  • Permanent resident of Guyana for the past five years
  • Never been convicted of a crime or involved in any illegal activity

The applicants will be screened and interviewed by the Committee which will be solely responsible for the selection of the representative.  The criteria for this exercise will certainly be more rigid and detailed since it is important that the representative possess the necessary attributes to make her competitive at the international level. Specifically, the Committee will be considering physical looks, intelligence, communication skills and specific personality traits. We are looking for someone who is a go-getter, has good morals, is a humanitarian and who will be able to create a positive impact at the Miss World Contest. The representative will be crowned Miss Guyana World 2004 and will reign until the next Miss Guyana World Pageant is held.

The individuals who are not successful at the screening and interview will have a chance to compete in the Miss Guyana World 2005 pageant which will be held in April 2005.

In support of art, theatre and culture, the Organisation is working towards the staging of its first ever Musical play written and directed by Derek Moore.  This will be staged at the National Cultural Centre in July.

In August the second annual dinner will be held at the Le Meridien Pegasus in honour of reigning Miss Guyana World, Alexis Glasgow who has represented us well at the 2003 Miss World Pageant. At this event her successor will be crowned and select pieces from her wardrobe as well as those of her successor designed by Derek Moore will be displayed.

Even though there will be no pageant, the organisation promises that these two events will be fantastic and will certainly pave the way for the 2005 Miss Guyana World pageant.

The franchise holder Mr. Ken Chung will be in Guyana shortly at which time a formal press conference will be held to discuss our detailed plans.

The Miss Guyana World Organisation hopes to continue its humanitarian work although we have not yet identified a specific cause for 2004.

The Miss World organization has changed the date of the pageant it will now be held on Saturday 4th of December 2004 in Sanya ,China

Thank You,

MISS GUYANA WORLD ORGANISATION
